About BYBA
The Bronxville Youth Basketball Association (BYBA) is a volunteer-run non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of basketball. Through recreational and travel programs, clinics and events, BYBA provides opportunities for every child to learn, compete, grow and most of all have fun with their friends.
Our Mission
BYBA is dedicated to promoting basketball at the youth level for families residing in the village of Bronxville, NY. We aim to provide every Bronxville boy and girl with the opportunity to learn, compete and develop through basketball while building confidence, character, teamwork and lifelong love of the game in a community-oriented environment.
Our programs are meant to complement — never replace — the other basketball in a player's life, whether that's CYO, AAU, school teams, or pickup at the park. We cheer for all of it: the more basketball, the better.
Our History
Bronxville has a vibrant youth sports community with talented children and dedicated families. Successful varsity programs have been grown in other sports through strong and inclusive volunteer led youth organizations such as Bronxville Youth Lacrosse Association and the Bronxville Football Club. Historically, youth basketball participation in Bronxville was splintered through several church organizations as well as other local town leagues. This model didn't allow children to play all together as a Bronxville community nor did it allow engagement and connection to the Bronxville High School Boys and Girls Varsity program.
In 2024, the BYBA founders began an effort to create opportunities for Bronxville basketball players to play all together feeling the pride of wearing the Bronco uniform. After a highly successful initial year of three teams participating in a town travel league, in 2025, BYBA expanded to seven travel teams, recreational leagues and clinics and began playing games at the Bronxville High School. The power of the model was clear — Bronxville children all playing together, connected to the Varsity programs while playing in their home gym.
Basketball Philosophy
At BYBA, our basketball philosophy is driven from the philosophy of the Bronxville High School varsity coaches. The language we use, the plays and defense we run are age-appropriate versions of the Bronxville Varsity program.
We believe strong basketball begins with effort, teamwork and a commitment to defense. Our teams learn to defend primarily through man-to-man principles, helping players develop responsibility, communication, toughness and an understanding of how to compete together.
We encourage an aggressive, energetic style of play built around defensive pressure, rebounding and creating fast-break opportunities. Offensively, we emphasize motion, spacing, passing, cutting and unselfish decision-making rather than relying on rigid plays or individual isolation.
Above all, we value effort, improvement, and the courage to compete. Players are encouraged to play confidently, take appropriate risk and learn from mistakes in a positive environment. Our coaching, expectations and style of play are always adapted to each age group so that every player can develop skills, basketball awareness, confidence and a lasting love for the game.
Where We Play
BYBA programs run on courts throughout the Bronxville community. Our clinics, practices and games are held at the Bronxville School gyms, the Reformed Church of Bronxville gym, and the Iona University Bronxville Campus gym. Playing in these local, well-loved spaces keeps our families close to home — and at the Bronxville School, our young players compete on the same floor as the Bronco varsity programs they look up to.

Coaching & Volunteering
The Head Coach of BYBA is Steve Juricek. Steve oversees the recruitment and management of BYBA's other paid coaches, while also coaching clinics, practices and teams himself. He is responsible for aligning the BYBA coaches and basketball philosophy with the Bronxville High School varsity coaches. Steve has over 25 years of basketball experience including as the Brunswick School Head Varsity Boys coach for seven years where he won a league championship. Steve has been working with BYBA since its founding.
In addition to paid professional coaches, BYBA benefits greatly from volunteer coaches. They pour time, energy, enthusiasm and love into the program and we are grateful for their support. We're always looking for additional volunteer coaches and team parents. We provide practice plans and pre-season coaches' clinic. Visit our Contact Page if you'd like to get involved or learn more. Basketball experience is always helpful but not required!
Volunteer with BYBAService
Basketball is how we come together, and giving back is part of why. BYBA believes our players should learn that being part of a team extends beyond the court and into the community.
For the last two years, BYBA has partnered with Feeding Westchester and Reformed Church of Bronxville to give our players and families a hands-on service opportunity supporting children facing food insecurity in Westchester County. In February 2025, BYBA families purchased and prepared 3,000 meal kits, and in February 2026 they purchased, packed and delivered an additional 6,500 meals for local children in need.
