BYBA Code of Conduct

BYBA exists to give every Bronxville boy and girl the opportunity to learn, compete and develop through basketball including building confidence, character, teamwork and a lifelong love of the game. We play an aggressive, energetic style and we value effort, improvement, and the courage to compete. None of that works without a community that holds itself to a high standard. This Code of Conduct applies to everyone who participates in BYBA, including from players, coaches, parents, family members and fans, at every practice, game, clinic and event, home or away.

Players

  • Give full effort at every practice and game. Effort is the foundation of everything we teach.
  • Respect your coaches, teammates, opponents and referees, in victory and defeat.
  • Be a great teammate: encourage others, celebrate unselfish play, and never blame a teammate for a mistake.
  • Compete hard within the rules and no trash talk, taunting, or retaliation.
  • Handle mistakes and losses with composure; handle wins with humility. You wear the Bronco uniform and represent Bronxville with pride.
  • Take care of the gyms we're privileged to play in, including our home courts at the Bronxville School.

Coaches

  • Put player development first.
  • Teach the BYBA way: effort, defense, teamwork and unselfish play, in language consistent with the Bronxville varsity programs.
  • Treat every player with respect and patience; correct mistakes by teaching, never by embarrassing.
  • Model the sportsmanship you expect from your players, especially toward referees and opposing coaches.
  • Communicate openly and respectfully with parents, and address concerns away from the court.
  • Never leave a player unsupervised, and report any safety concern to the board immediately.

Parents, Family & Fans

  • Positive encouragement only.
  • Let the coaches coach. Instructions from the sideline confuse players and undermine the team.
  • Let the referees referee. Disputing calls from the stands is never acceptable.
  • Observe the 24-hour rule: if you have a concern about playing time, coaching decisions, or anything that happened at a game, wait a day, then raise it privately with the coach — never during or immediately after a game, and never in front of the players.
  • Model the character we're asking of our kids. They're watching us more closely than the game.

By registering a player with BYBA, families acknowledge and agree to this Code of Conduct.
